Project appeals to avoid Farm bankruptcies & helping others

Above, linked in the image (and here) is our first specific project appeal using the gofundme platform, well known for its integrity and reliability. It is to supply Farmers with subsidised Organic pesticides and fertilizers that don’t poison our food chain, replacing those that do.

We begin with farms in the South of England. This is the tip of an iceberg, however we will replicate this model nationwide in due course. And then globally. A big objective we know, but definitely achievable in the longer term. This all depends on the success of our appeals.

How it works: “Subsidise in order to persuade” – just about sums it up. We do our best to help if they want to switch to organic, providing organic products to Farmers at 20% less than they pay for the chemicals. We then need to make up the difference on their sales, because on average the crop will be 10-15% less in quantity. This is understandably why so many farmers are reticent to change.

It is hard enough for farmers to make a profit these days anyway, so this is the fairest, and possibly only way to persuade them to move away from Chemical to Organic, and to help them make a decent living. Farmers were once considered to be “wealthy”, a few are but today the majority are struggling. Here is a very sad fact:

In the past 5 years 386 farms have become bankrupt or insolvent in the UK alone. 1,115 in the USA. (see the Farm bankruptcies chart below)

We believe the ones who will survive are those who DO NOT IGNORE* the huge new global trend to transition away from harmful chemicals to organic and eco-friendly.

THIS CHANGE FROM CHEMICAL TO ORGANIC IS WHAT WILL SAVE THEM FROM INSOLVENCY.

Yes there is a cost in producing less quantity but higher quality harvests. We hope the government will bridge the gap with subsidies. But in the meantime we want to do all that we can to help in this way also.

Help us to help farmers avoid bankruptcies or insolvency. We know it’s big “ask” but we must begin somewhere!

A thought: Have you ever considered it strange that we put poison on our crops to stop pests from eating them – and then we eat (or drink) them ourselves!! These chemicals are proven to be a contributing factor in the causes of Cancer.

About us: Our community is a bridge opening new connections between consumers, producers and medical professionals. Together, we are working toward a greener, healthier, more equitable world where nutritious food is available to all.

There is already more than sufficient food in the world to feed every single mouth, but much is wasted and too much is contaminated by harmful chemicals.

anthony profile 1We don’t only seek justice and health, we strive to initiate it. These appeals are one of those ways.

Thank you very much for helping us.

Anthony Black, founder & ex-farmer.

A note to Farmers:

In order for us to help you please join us. There are already many benefits to be gained, however we can’t promise funding until our appeal is successful. Even then, just a few farms at a time – unless we are able to raise several million.

Messrs Musk, Zuckerberg, Trump and all billionaires  – where are you when we need you? 🙂

Total Number of Farms (which we want to see avoid bankruptcy!)

Subtracting the known 5-year failure figures from the earlier chart gives an estimated 3.68 million farms that haven’t failed in the countries with available data. This is only a rough estimate, as new farms may have opened, some may have closed without going bankrupt, and failure metrics vary by country.

Area Latest farm / holding count used 5-year failures Rough “not failed” count
UK 209,000 386 208,614
USA 1,900,487 1,115 1,899,372
Canada 189,874 406 189,468
New Zealand 47,250 N/A 47,250 farm count only
Australia 87,800 362 87,438
France 389,800 6,684 383,116
Spain 914,871 343 914,528
Germany 262,800 N/A farm count only
Italy 1,133,023 N/A farm count only
Total 5,134,905 known failures: 9,296 5,125,609, if treating N/A failures as zero
Rest of World 602,865,095 N/A not calculable
World total estimate approx. 608,000,000 N/A not calculable

The UK reported 209,000 holdings in 2024’s Agriculture in the United Kingdom; the US 2022 Census of Agriculture counted 1,900,487 farms; Canada’s 2021 Census recorded 189,874 farms; Stats NZ listed 47,250 farms in 2022; and ABS noted 87,800 Australian agricultural businesses as of 30 June 2022.

In Europe, France’s 2020 agricultural census counted 389,800 farms in metropolitan France; Spain’s 2020 Agrarian Census reported 914,871 operations; Germany’s 2020 Census of Agriculture recorded about 262,800 holdings; and Italy’s 2020 agricultural census showed 1,133,023 farms. For the “Rest of World,” the FAO’s global estimate of over 608 million farms was used, subtracting the counts for the nine named countries.
